Cement Net Exclusive: Is the Cement Industry Ready for the Expansion of the National Carbon Market?

In view of the problems of declining profits of cement enterprises hindering green transformation and narrowing the space for energy saving and carbon reduction, Ye Jiayuan proposed that cement enterprises should not forget to innovate no matter how difficult it is. Innovation should not only be limited to low-carbon areas, but also open up ideas and plan digital upgrading and intelligent transformation as early as possible according to their own conditions. In the implementation of digital and intelligent transformation, it should be linked with low-carbon as far as possible. If digital intelligence leaves the foothold of low carbon, digital intelligence is likely to be hollow, and it is likely to become a castle in the air, which is not useful, but a burden for enterprises.

Cement manufacturing industry is an energy-intensive industry, driven by the goal of "double carbon", there is an urgent need for R & D, deployment and application of related technologies to support the green and low-carbon transformation of the cement industry. What are the paths of low-carbon development of cement industry at present? How should cement enterprises cope with the challenges of declining profits and green transformation? Cement industry will soon be included in the carbon emissions trading market, what preparations should cement enterprises make? China Cement Network consulted Ye Jiayuan, Vice President of Cement New Materials Institute of China Building Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd. on these issues.

Ye Jiayuan introduced that the current low-carbon development path of China's cement industry mainly includes improving the energy efficiency of equipment, replacing raw materials and fuels, and other source carbon reduction technologies . As well as the development of new low-carbon cementitious materials and other applications of low-carbon technology, carbon capture coupling mineralized building materials preparation and other end carbon sequestration technologies .

Among them, there is a significant gap between China's alternative fuel technology and the world's advanced level, which should be the focus of low-carbon development in the future; the role of innovation and development of new low-carbon cementitious materials in the reconstruction of cement varieties can not be ignored, and it will also play an important supporting role in the low-carbon development of the whole industry.

In particular, the current hot low-carbon cement technology in Europe, such as LC3, can provide inspiration for the development of new low-carbon cementitious materials in China. For example, combined with the characteristics of abundant coal gangue resources and large emissions of engineering dregs in China, low-carbon cement with high solid waste content can be developed, which can achieve similar low-carbon efficacy with LC3.

Ye Jiayuan said that at present, China's cement technology and equipment technology has made considerable progress, leading the world in many fields. On this basis, China's cement industry should focus on the future and intensify efforts to tackle process reengineering technologies such as hydrogen energy calcination, suspension boiling calcination and green electric energy calcination, so as to continue to lead the development of the world cement industry in the low-carbon field.

In addition, we should extend the industrial chain, jump out of the scope of cement production, and consider the coordinated green and low-carbon development of multiple industries. For example, we should tackle the technology of high-durability and long-life concrete with high content of solid waste, build a synergistic green low-carbon development model in metallurgy, chemical industry, energy, building materials, construction, transportation and other industries, and enhance the service life of buildings and dilute the carbon emission intensity of building materials in the life cycle of buildings.

Secondly, on the basis of maintaining innovative consciousness, it is suggested that enterprises should build a certain innovative force if they have spare capacity. Only with talents can we carry out targeted innovation according to the actual situation of enterprises and their own needs, which not only has strong timeliness, but also avoids detours to the greatest extent. Of course, such talents are not necessarily owned by enterprises, but appropriate mechanisms should be established to achieve their own use.

Finally, Ye Jiayuan gave several suggestions on the preparations for cement enterprises to enter the national carbon market:

First, try to find out the family background , be clear about their actual situation, and have a clear expectation of the future low-carbon situation of the enterprise.

Second, reserve or implement relevant low-carbon technologies as soon as possible, including but not limited to energy-saving transformation, demonstration and verification of new low-carbon technologies, focusing on low-carbon technologies, forming carbon assets, and seizing the first-mover advantage.

Thirdly, we should pay due attention to and understand carbon accounting methods and carbon trading mechanisms , strengthen policy learning, and have a good idea so as to cope with them in the future.

The cement industry will soon be incorporated into the carbon trading market, and the importance of green low-carbon transformation has become increasingly apparent. Dual-carbon drive, energy efficiency improvement and green development have immeasurable strategic significance and practical effect for enhancing the core competitiveness of cement enterprises and realizing the grand blueprint of sustainable development of the industry.
