The optimal Arundo donax space mutation breeding test-tube seedlings were brought into space by Shenzhou 16 manned spacecraft on May 30 this year. After five months of space travel, it successfully returned to Earth.
The data show that Arundo donax is a kind of perennial plant, which is erect, clustered, with developed root system and tall plant, the plant height is generally 5-8 meters; it has strong adaptability to the environment, is a typical carbon-negative plant, and has a high photosynthetic rate. Space breeding Arundo donax has a strong ability to absorb and fix carbon. During the growth period of space Arundo donax, 4.05 tons of CO can be fixed per mu, which is 30-50% higher than other common biomass fuels.
Moreover, space Arundo donax has another important use-biomass fuel. Space Arundo donax can be used as biomass fuel to replace traditional fossil resources and provide energy for production and life. Studies have shown that space Arundo donax has faster growth rate, stronger plants and higher yield per mu than ordinary Arundo donax. After harvesting, it can be used as alternative fuel through simple processing, and its combustion calorific value is 10-20% higher than that of conventional biomass, and its combustion speed is equivalent to that of bituminous coal.
At present, Huarun Cement has carried out the adaptability planting experiment of space Arundo donax in Tianyang, Guangxi. Planting space Arundo donax in cement mine land can not only realize mine greening, but also absorb carbon dioxide in the air, and can also be used as biomass fuel instead of coal to help cement enterprises achieve energy saving, emission reduction and carbon reduction. It is believed that in the near future, the successful space mutation of Arundo donax test-tube seedlings will bear fruitful results in Huarun Cement Mine-high-quality biomass fuel, and will also open up a new way for the cement industry to reduce carbon!
