On October 31, the optimized Arundo donax test-tube seedlings jointly cultivated by China Resources Cement and Aerospace Shenzhou Biotechnology Group were successfully returned by Shenzhou 16 manned spacecraft through space mutagenesis, marking a new milestone in the research and development of energy saving and carbon reduction by using space Arundo donax.
In order to innovate and promote the work of energy saving and carbon reduction in enterprises, Huarun Cement has jointly carried out the research and development of basic technologies related to the optimization of biomass fuel crops by space Arundo donax since 2022. The optimized Arundo donax space mutation breeding test-tube seedlings were brought into space by Shenzhou 16 manned spacecraft on May 30 this year. After five months of space travel, it successfully returned to Earth. As a renewable energy, biomass energy is the fourth largest energy after coal, oil and natural gas. As a clean energy with negative carbon emissions, biomass energy plays an important role in the whole energy system. Its utilization is gradually shifting to the non-grain biofuel route, which is an important way to achieve carbon neutrality.
At present, Huarun Cement takes the backfill area of limestone mine in Tianyang Base as the experimental base, and steadily carries out the planting experiment of space Arundo donax. In recent years, China Resources Cement has made sustained efforts in the field of carbon neutralization, focusing on the "3C" process carbon reduction technology of low carbon at the source, carbon reduction in the process and carbon removal at the end, adhering to the green low-carbon development route, injecting green kinetic energy into industrial development, and actively helping to achieve the goal of "double carbon". In the future, China Resources Cement and Aerospace Shenzhou Biotechnology Group will continue to carry out space mutation breeding research and the creation and development of excellent new varieties of space Arundo donax, effectively promoting the large-scale application of space Arundo donax as biomass fuel.
