Shanghai Shenneng Group, reported on May 5 that Shanghai Hechen Chuanghe Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hechen Technology, recently released a self-developed megawatt high-power proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer to further expand the manufacturing field of hydrogen production equipment and consolidate the layout of its hydrogen energy industry chain.

Hydrogen energy is known as the "ultimate energy" in the 21st century. In recent years, the world's major economies have put forward plans and goals for the development of hydrogen energy, raising the development of hydrogen energy to a strategic level. As a comprehensive energy enterprise in an energy-importing city, Shanghai Shenneng Group has started early and initially formed a "three vertical and three horizontal" strategic layout for hydrogen energy development, covering all major links in the hydrogen energy industry chain. The PEM electrolyzer

released this time is one of the key equipment for producing green hydrogen. Due to the low investment cost, alkaline electrolyzers are still widely used to produce hydrogen in the domestic market, but they have long start-stop time and slow dynamic response, which makes it difficult to adapt to the market demand of renewable energy with rapid fluctuation characteristics. As one of the three mainstream technologies for producing green hydrogen by electrolyzing water, PEM is considered to have a huge market prospect.

The so-called PEM electrolyzes water to produce hydrogen, that is, water is decomposed into hydrogen and oxygen through proton exchange membrane, and hydrogen is produced by chemical reaction and electrochemical reaction. Industry experts believe that compared with alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production technology, PEM water electrolysis hydrogen production is more suitable for the characteristics of new energy power generation, can match the volatility of renewable energy power generation, but due to less application, coupled with the use of some rare and precious metals and other resources, its cost is still high.

In order to solve the problem of "not big, not affordable and not affordable" for PEM electrolyzers, Hesheng Energy has previously set up a research and development team from material research and development, flow field design, preparation process and equipment development to tackle key problems, invested nearly 100 million yuan in research and development funds, and developed a number of key technologies, including high-performance catalyst technology. The material, structure and process system of the existing electrolyzer were reformed to improve the performance and reliability of the industry.

According to reports, through highly integrated design, reducing the number of parts and assembly difficulties, the localization rate of first-class parts of PEM electrolyzer products released by Hydrogen Energy has reached 100%, and the overall localization rate of materials and parts has exceeded 90%.

Due to the advantages of highly integrated design and localization, the cost of the PEM electrolyzer is significantly reduced, which is helpful to meet the conditions of large-scale commercialization. According to reports, the PEM electrolyzer single cell rated hydrogen production capacity is 250 standard cubic meters per hour, which can operate stably in a wide power input range of 5% -150%.

"This electrolyzer platform product can directly produce 3.5 MPa high-pressure hydrogen and can withstand 5000 pressure cycles." Guo Weiping, general manager of Hesheng Energy, said that megawatt PEM electrolyzers can not only achieve minute-level start-stop and second-level dynamic response, but also operate reliably in a wide power range, highly adapting to the volatility of wind and solar power generation.

It is reported that Hydrogen Morning Technology is a high-tech enterprise jointly incubated and invested by Shenneng Group, Lingang Group, Lingang New Area Management Committee of China (Shanghai) Free Trade Pilot Area and Shanghai Jiaotong University. As a pioneer in the development of hydrogen energy industry in China, Lingang New Area is planning to build a world-class manufacturing cluster and accelerate the formation of a number of 100 billion-grade industrial clusters such as new energy storage and high-end equipment in the next three years, with an annual fixed assets investment of more than 40 billion yuan.
