This week, Standard Chartered Bank of the United Kingdom, as the financing coordinator, has assisted the Ministry of Finance of the Angolan Government to obtain a total of 1.29 billion euros in loans from Euler Hermes, a German export credit agency, and other commercial institutions, which will be used by the Angolan Government to build a number of rural photovoltaic power supply systems throughout the country.
The US $1.4 billion construction fund will be used to build 48 photovoltaic power generation systems, equipped with energy storage equipment, which can be used for the role of "micro-grid", while Angola will actively build off-grid photovoltaic power generation systems.
The proposed photovoltaic project will be able to meet the electricity demand of about 203,000 households in 60 residential communities.
In addition, the Angolan government will use the financing to expand the national power grid in Malanje, northern Angola, and to build new power transmission lines to other cities. The project is sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Angola.
