Recently, the distributed source-load aggregation service platform of China Southern Power Grid Corporation has synchronously carried out multi-functional joint regulation and control of virtual power plants in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Guangdong and Liuzhou, Guangxi, and achieved rapid response such as frequency modulation and direct control in many provinces and regions. It marks the first regional virtual power plant in China to be put into operation . What is a
virtual power plant? As a set of intelligent energy management system,
virtual power plant can aggregate different types of distributed energy such as energy storage system, controllable load and electric vehicle through advanced digital interconnection technology, and realize sharing, mutual benefit and optimal allocation of these massive fragmented power resources in a wider range.
In Shenzhen, the highest electricity load this year has exceeded 21 million kilowatts ahead of schedule. In order to ensure stable power supply, several local charging stations are regulated and controlled through virtual power plants across provinces and regions. The whole process takes only 25 seconds.
"Shenzhen has many charging resources and great potential for adjustment." Qiu Kaixiang, head of business development of the Ministry of Emerging Industries of Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau of China Southern Power Grid, said, "We realize the precise regulation of vehicle-network interaction through the platform, and give the potential power to more users in need, so as to realize the mutual benefit of energy optimization."
"Through this platform, idle charging piles, air conditioning, distributed photovoltaic and other resources can be aggregated to optimize control and ensure power supply." Zheng Yi, deputy general manager of the emerging business department of China Southern Power Grid Corporation, introduced that the current response rules can also be applied according to market-oriented means, so that power resources can participate in system regulation to gain profits. What are the characteristics of
regional virtual power plants?
In the past, the virtual power plant was affected by the response speed, market mechanism, resource types and other factors, and its functional varieties were relatively single. This time, the regional virtual power plant achieved new breakthroughs in large-scale, multi-resource participation in direct-controlled demand response, interactive regulation of vehicle network, and secondary frequency modulation auxiliary services. The direct-controlled resources were "ordered to move" within 30 seconds. The response capability has basically approached the physical power plant . At the same time, it also provides users with digital maintenance, intelligent energy management, market transactions and other energy services.
At present, the platform has aggregated all kinds of distributed resources in Guangdong and Guangxi, such as new energy storage, electric vehicle charging and switching facilities, distributed photovoltaic, non-productive air conditioning, wind and solar storage and charging micro-grid, with a scale of 10751 MW, of which 1532 MW is adjustable, and the total capacity of the platform is 1075 MW. It is equivalent to putting seven 220 kilovolt substations into operation.
Zheng Yi said that in the next step, China Southern Power Grid Corporation will speed up the access of distributed resources in the southern region, dock more users, continuously expand the scale, promote the full consumption of clean energy, and ensure reliable and stable power supply.
On June 29, at the 2023 International Digital Energy Exhibition, Shenzhen Virtual Power Plant Management Platform 2.0 was released. This version upgrades the functions of precise response, operation monitoring and data visualization in an all-round way, marking a new step in the construction of virtual power plants in Shenzhen. In December
2021, China Southern Power Grid Corporation launched the first virtual power plant operation and management platform in China, which can be directly dispatched by the general dispatching of China Southern Power Grid and the dispatching agencies of Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau of China Southern Power Grid, thus realizing the considerable, measurable and adjustable load in the whole period of time. It has taken the lead in exploring the sustainable development path of deep interaction between power supply and demand under the new power system, reaching the leading level in China.
On this basis, the 2.0 version is upgraded iteratively. The module is divided into six pages: resource aggregation, dispatching operation, response monitoring, green low-carbon, market operation and technical architecture. It uses 3D map and 3D modeling technology to display all aspects of the management work of Shenzhen Virtual Power Plant Management Center comprehensively and intuitively, so as to enrich the content and make the data more comprehensive.
In particular, the 2.0 version not only has full access to the resources of "one network for power charging and storage", but also covers buildings, ice storage stations, industrial parks and other resources, with a scale of 1.5 million kilowatts and a real-time control capacity of more than 300000 kilowatts. At the same time, this version realizes the full topological path retrieval of load side resources, supports precise peak clipping, and can carry out multiple responses in normalization and marketization; it makes the interconnection of electricity and carbon data, realizes the monitoring and analysis of carbon emission flow of virtual power plants, and promotes energy conservation and emission reduction; it solves the problem of data security through the "Hanhai" series of domestic autonomous and controllable products.
It is understood that at present, Shenzhen Virtual Power Plant Management Center has 66 docking virtual power plant operators, more than 30 access management, more than 1.5 million kilowatts of access resources, and the maximum real-time adjustable load capacity is expected to exceed 300000 kilowatt s. It is a virtual power plant platform with the highest data acquisition density, the most complete access load types, the most direct control resources and the most complete application scenarios in China. By 2025, Shenzhen plans to build a virtual power plant with an adjustable capacity of 1 million kilowatts, which will strongly support the construction of a new energy system and the development of green low-carbon industries.
