Xinjiang Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project successfully produced hydrogen on June 30, and the project successfully realized the whole process of green hydrogen production and utilization, marking the first time that China has realized the whole industry chain of 10000-ton green hydrogen refining project.

Peng Mei News learned from China Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. (Hereinafter referred to as Sinopec) on June 30 that its Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project in Xinjiang produced hydrogen smoothly, and the hydrogen produced was transported to Sinopec Tahe Refining and Chemical Company by pipeline to replace the existing natural gas fossil energy to produce hydrogen.

So far, the project has realized the whole process of green hydrogen production and utilization, which also marks the first time that China has realized the whole industrial chain of 10000-ton green hydrogen refining project.

It is understood that the project uses the electrolytic water hydrogen production equipment developed and produced by Longji Hydrogen Energy.

Xinjiang Kuqa Project is the first 10000-ton photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration project in China, which is implemented by Sinopec Xinxing Company.

The project utilizes the abundant solar energy resources in Xinjiang to generate electricity and directly produce green hydrogen, and the construction contents mainly include photovoltaic power generation , transmission and transformation lines, hydrogen production by electrolysis of water, hydrogen storage and transportation, public works and supporting auxiliary production facilities. Hydrogen production capacity of electrolytic water is 20000 tons per year , hydrogen storage capacity is 210000 standard cubic meters , and hydrogen transmission capacity is 28000 standard cubic meters per hour .

According to the source of hydrogen, it can be divided into three types: green hydrogen, blue hydrogen and gray hydrogen. Green hydrogen is produced directly by renewable energy such as solar energy and wind energy, and greenhouse gases are not produced in the production process. Refining and chemical industry will be one of the main application scenarios for green hydrogen to achieve carbon reduction in the industrial field. The green hydrogen produced

by Kuqa Project is supplied to Sinopec Tahe Refining and Chemical Company nearby, completely replacing the existing natural gas fossil energy to produce hydrogen, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485000 tons per year, and has a demonstration effect on the large-scale use of green hydrogen in refining and chemical enterprises to achieve carbon emission reduction.

It is the first demonstration project in China that runs through the whole process of green hydrogen production and utilization, such as photovoltaic power generation, green power transmission, green hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transportation and green hydrogen refining. Sinopec has made a breakthrough in solving the problem of flexible hydrogen production under the new energy fluctuation power scenario and continuous and stable supply to downstream refining and chemical enterprises. According to the photovoltaic power generation site

of Kuqa Project, the photovoltaic modules, electrolyzers, hydrogen storage tanks, hydrogen pipelines and other major equipment and core materials used in the project have all been localized, effectively promoting the development of hydrogen energy equipment and hydrogen energy industry chain in China.

Taking the electrolyzer as an example, before the start of the project, the cumulative demand for 1000Nm ³/H electrolyzers in China was less than 30 units, while the Kuqa Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project alone needed 52 units, which effectively promoted the large-scale production of the domestic electrolyzer industry.

According to the comprehensive market research data, the current domestic production capacity of 1000Nm ³/H electrolyzers is close to 3GW , and the market demand for green hydrogen in the first five months of this year is more than 650MW . It is close to the total demand of domestic hydrogen energy market in 2022.

Aiming at the established goal of "building China's first hydrogen energy company", Sinopec has made all-round efforts in the hydrogen energy industry chain.

As the largest hydrogen production and utilization entity in China, Sinopec has produced and utilized about 4.5 million tons of hydrogen annually in recent years. At present, Sinopec has put into operation the first self-developed megawatt PEM electrolytic water hydrogen production unit in Yanshan Petrochemical Company around the two major fields of "hydrogen transportation and green hydrogen refining", and launched the world's largest green hydrogen coupling coal chemical project, the demonstration project of landscape integration of green hydrogen in Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, which has accumulated more than 100 hydrogenation stations. The "West-to-East Hydrogen Transmission" hydrogen pipeline has been incorporated into the national planning, and has led the establishment of an expert advisory committee on the construction of the hydrogen energy industry chain.

It is understood that as a supplier of large-scale green hydrogen equipment and solutions, Longji Hydrogen Energy successfully entered the project in May 2022. The project adopts 16 sets of 1000Nm ³/H water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment of Longji Hydrogen Energy, and realizes the "four to one" system application of four electrolyzers to one gas-liquid separation equipment for the first time.

On June 30, Longji Hydrogen Energy successfully completed the commissioning of the ventilation equipment for the project.
