According to foreign media reports, Saudi Arabia has hired Paris-based engineering group Assystem to conduct pre-development studies for seven photovoltaic parks in Tabuk and Duba, which will subsequently supply power to Saudi Arabia's Neom Economic Development Zone.
Assystem says the solar park covers a total area of more than 420 square kilometers and may provide more than 20 G W of power generation capacity.
The company will conduct site assessment studies, preliminary designs, master plans, environmental and social impact assessments, and permit studies.
It noted that the International Energy Agency calculates that solar will account for the lion's share of electricity generation by 2027. "This project marks the first step towards large-scale deployment of solar PV," said Kerem Sadiklar, head of site selection and environmental services
at Assystem.
