On June 27, there was a sudden news on the Internet that nine leading photovoltaic companies sat together two weeks ago and agreed on the standard size of 72 or 66 components, which was proposed to be 2382 * 1134 .

These nine enterprises are Jingke Energy, Longji Green Energy, Jingao Technology, Trina Solar Energy, Xiexin Integration, Tongwei Stock, Zhengtai Xinneng, Dongfang Risheng, Yidao Xinneng , 182 and 210, the two leaders of the photovoltaic camp are rarely in the same frame. According to the minutes of the

online transmission meeting, in addition to reaching an agreement on the size of the components, 9 enterprises also determined that the distance between the long side mounting holes of 72 or 66 rectangular components is 400 mm/790mm/1400mm; the original distance between the holes of each enterprise is used as a customized option.

The parties also agreed to establish a discussion group on component size standards to form a regular communication and coordination mechanism, with each party taking turns to serve as a Secretary-General.

According to the confirmation of many media such as Interface News, Financial Associated Press and 21st Century Economic Report yesterday, the news is probably true, but in the end it was temporarily stranded because of the hesitation of some enterprises.

Digital New Energy DNE noted that the agreed 2382 * 1134 module size is only 2 mm different from the 210R module size first launched by Trina Solar in April last year. In April

2022, as soon as Trina Solar 210R products came out, it was called "golden size" by the industry because it can greatly improve the performance of mid-plate products, superior version size, electrical compatibility, 98.5% higher container space utilization and other advantages. In March

this year, Trina Solar for the first time fully disclosed 210 R product solutions and industrialization feasibility paths to the industry, advocating the standardization of silicon wafer battery component size, which won a round of applause at that time.

In the SENC exhibition in May this year, Jingke Energy, Tongwei Stock, Jingao Science and Technology and Dongfang Risheng launched their own 2384 (2380) * 1134 mm components on the 600W + component products.

This time, the nine major manufacturers held a meeting to discuss the standard size of 2382 * 1134 for 72 or 66 components of the unified medium plate type, which is also a further recognition of this size. The

size dispute has been divided for a long time, but it is not necessarily necessary to seek a unified component size in the same frame with

the two camps. Does it mean that in the near future, the unification of silicon chip size will also be expected ? The size of

silicon wafers is unlikely to reach a uniform standard, an industry insider said. It can be said that the dispute over the size of

silicon wafers has been accompanied by the growth of China's photovoltaic industry for a long time, from the early 125 square silicon wafers to 166 square silicon wafers to the present 182 and 210 rectangular silicon wafers.

As an industrial product, the size, thickness and other parameters of photovoltaic silicon wafers basically serve the efficiency ( "efficiency improvement" ) index. In other fixed cases, the larger the size, the smaller the cost per kilowatt-hour, and the faster the demand growth of downstream end applications.

Therefore, the development rate of large-scale silicon wafers can be said to be synchronized with the development of China's photovoltaic industry.

However, under the large size, the specific silicon wafer size varies with the development path of each manufacturer. Around 182 dimensions alone, there are square 182 * 182, rectangular 182 * 183, 182 * 185, 182 * 188 and so on.

Different silicon wafer sizes bring a lot of trouble. Different silicon wafer sizes have different requirements for the corresponding photovoltaic glass, bracket, frame and other supporting parts, which is equivalent to each production according to the requirements of semi-customization, increasing the upstream and downstream manufacturing costs and power plant costs.

In this chaotic situation, the size unification of the silicon wafer industry has also been carried out on a small scale. In November

2020, eight enterprises represented by Trina Solar put forward 210 mm silicon wafer module standardization initiative to unify the internal camp of 210 size.

In this initiative, eight enterprises are involved in the upstream and downstream of the photovoltaic industry chain. Central shares and Tongwei shares are the leading photovoltaic wafers and batteries respectively. Trina Solar, Atlas and Dongfang Risheng are the global photovoltaic module giants; CNC (now Hongyuan Green Energy) is the leading manufacturer of photovoltaic equipment.

However, from the perspective of enterprises, the efficiency of the industry is not fully in line with the pursuit of enterprises in reducing costs and increasing efficiency to some extent. In the

past two years, when the competition between 182 and 210 was the most intense, some people in the industry said that insisting on 182 size and upgrading the equipment from 166 to 182 was the best solution for Longji at that time.

Trina Solar is now vigorously promoting the size of 210, but also its own silicon materials, silicon wafers, batteries, components in the whole industry chain has been deeply tied up with the size of 210.

On the whole, the nine giants unified 210 parts of the component size, to some extent, catered to the development trend of the industry, and made a good start for the follow-up industry to formulate a unified standard. But if we think that the era of unification of the photovoltaic industry is coming, at present, it is too early to say.
