Zhonghuan, Xiexin and Sunshine Power are all there! Nuggets welcome new opportunities in the Middle East

Before TCL Central, Chinese photovoltaic companies such as Jingke Energy and Sunshine Power have been working in the Middle East for many years.

On October 17, TCL Zhonghuan announced that the company signed the Joint Development Agreement with Saudi Vision Industries (Vision Industries) at the Belt and Road "Entrepreneurs Conference". Promote the joint construction of crystal wafer projects in Saudi Arabia.

According to the agreement, the target capacity of the first phase of the contracted silicon wafer factory project is 20GW .

Central's first overseas stop

in 2022, TCL Zhonghuan put forward the development strategy of "implementing the global leading strategy of photovoltaic materials and maintaining the comprehensive strength of TOP1". Under this strategy, business globalization and industrial globalization have gradually become an important path for the company to enhance its global competitiveness. The signing of this contract

with Saudi Vision Industry is an important step taken by TCL Zhonghuan in the practice of industrial globalization. Before

that, TCL Zhonghuan mainly achieved its goal of globalization by participating in foreign photovoltaic enterprises. Maxeon , its shareholding subsidiary and the world's largest manufacturer of shingled modules, has also made frequent moves recently. First, during the Munich Conference in June, it opened the prelude to the patent dispute with Tongwei over shingled modules. After precisely attacking its rivals, it made a high-profile announcement to build the largest photovoltaic module factory in the United States so far.

Through Maxeon's existing proprietary technology and access to global markets in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe and the Americas, With the help of Maxeon, TCL Zhonghuan further expands the manufacturing system of batteries and components and the market development business of ground power stations and distributed power stations worldwide, and rapidly establishes the overseas industrial layout and global supply chain system.

But for TCL Central, which is targeting TOP1, this is far from enough. According to the semi-annual report of

TCL Zhonghuan in 2023, the company's export revenue in the first half of the year was 4.002 billion yuan, accounting for only 11% of the total revenue. From 24.69% in 2020 to 13% in 2022.

Just last week, Maxeon suddenly announced that the company would lay off 15% of its employees worldwide due to the default of major customers, which seems to mean that TCL Central's "leveraging" to expand the global photovoltaic territory is not very smooth. You can't put

your eggs in one basket. Moreover, GCL Technology , a partner of TCL Zhonghuan for many years, also announced plans to build the first granular silicon plant in Saudi Arabia after Zhonghuan. At that time, TCL Zhonghuan will continue to be deeply bound with GCL in the Middle East. This time, TCL Central chose to do it by itself.

Chinese photovoltaic enterprises go to sea in the Middle East

, TCL Central chose Saudi Arabia in the Middle East as the first stop to go to sea.

The Middle East has an advantageous geographical location, and the establishment of a factory in Saudi Arabia can fill the market demand for " in the Middle East as a traditional fossil fuel use area. The Middle East countries, mainly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are facing great pressure to reduce carbon emissions. At present, the six major oil-producing countries in the Middle East have made corresponding climate commitments to the world. Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have set their climate targets at "net zero emissions" , among which Saudi Arabia has announced that 50% of its electricity will come from renewable energy by 2030.

In addition to the superior solar irradiation conditions , photovoltaic has become one of the best solutions for the rapid realization of renewable energy in the Middle East.

In addition, since the beginning of the year, the overseas situation has also ushered in historic positive changes, and the stable and positive business environment has laid a new foundation for the strategy of Chinese photovoltaic enterprises to go to the Middle East. The development of Chinese photovoltaic enterprises in the Middle East ushered in new opportunities.

Data show that before TCL Central, Chinese photovoltaic enterprises such as Jingke Energy and Sunshine Power have been working in the Middle East for many years, but they are all involved in the market in the form of photovoltaic power generation project construction and project suppliers.

As early as 2016, Jinko provided 23 MW polysilicon modules for the first large-scale power plant in the Middle East at that time; since then, Jinko has continuously deepened its influence in the Middle East by participating in local module bidding and EPC projects. This year

alone, among the announced projects, Jinko has a 500 MW solar project in Oman and a 400 MW photovoltaic power plant in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, in September, Jinko's Middle East joint venture , Shengke Jinko Guangyao, was allowed to list on the third market platform of Oman 's Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) .

Besides Jingke , the momentum of enterprises such as Sunshine Power Supply and Zhonglai Solar Energy is also very strong.

In 2022, ACWA Power (Saudi International Power and Water Company), a subsidiary of Vision Industries, signed a memorandum of understanding agreement with six state-owned enterprises in China and Jingke Energy, Sunshine Power and Zhonglai Solar Energy to jointly promote project financing, investment and construction in Saudi Arabia and the "the Belt and Road" initiative countries.

According to incomplete statistics, as early as 2022, Sunshine Power has shipped more than 3GW inverters in the Middle East. At the end of last year

, Zhonglai also said that the company had shipped nearly 1GW N-type components to the Middle East, and the market share of N-type products in the Middle East was as high as 10%, making it the "first supplier of N-type components" in the region.

Apart from Jingke, Sunshine and Zhonglai, which have been deeply engaged in the local market for many years, the latecomers are also not weak.

Trina Solar will start selling components to the Middle East in 2020, and by the end of 2022. Its cumulative shipments in the Middle East and North Africa have reached 2.

Longji has also won 406 MW photovoltaic projects in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea New Town and 800

in Qatar's Halsa.

At present, China's photovoltaic enterprises have made remarkable achievements in the Middle East and have gained a good reputation in the local area. But on the whole, most enterprises participate in local project competition as suppliers, and the landing of TCL Middle East Silicon Wafer Project will surely become a new milestone for Chinese photovoltaic enterprises to participate in the Middle East market in depth.

In the announcement of TCL Zhonghuan, there is such a paragraph: This project cooperation is an important process to promote the globalization strategy of the company's new energy photovoltaic industry, laying a solid foundation for further industrial globalization and manufacturing localization, and also providing support and reference for the global development of the photovoltaic industry.
