On the morning of June 25, the world's largest water-light complementary power station and the world's first million-kilowatt water-light complementary power station, Yalong River Kola Phase I Photovoltaic Power Station, was officially connected to the grid.

On June 25,

2023, Kola Phase I Photovoltaic Power Station, located in Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province, was connected to the grid, marking the formal commissioning of the world's first million-kilowatt "water-light complementary" power station. Kola Phase I Photovoltaic Power Station, the

world's largest and highest water-light complementary clean energy project

, has an average annual power generation of 2 billion degrees

. Kola Phase I Photovoltaic Power Station is located in the western Sichuan Plateau and is the water-light complementary phase I project of Lianghekou Hydropower Station on the Yalong River, with the highest elevation of 4600 meters. With an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts and an area of 25,000 mu, the photovoltaic site area is equivalent to more than 2,000 standard football fields spliced together, and the steel consumption of photovoltaic brackets is nearly 50,000 tons, which is equivalent to rebuilding a "Bird's Nest" stadium in a high altitude area of more than 4,000 meters. The power station is connected to Lianghekou Hydropower Station with a distance of 50 kilometers and an installed capacity of 3 million kilowatts through 500 kV transmission lines, realizing the "bundling" of photovoltaic power generation and hydropower.

Cora Phase I Photovoltaic Power Station is the largest and highest water-light complementary project in the world, with an average annual power generation of 2 billion degrees, saving more than 600000 tons of standard coal and reducing more than 1.6 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

It is understood that the first phase of Cora photovoltaic power station is connected to the main network of Sichuan and put into operation in summer, which adds a "fresh force" to the power supply of Sichuan and Chongqing, and also provides a reliable power guarantee for the Chengdu Universiade, which opens on July 28. The power station has become a bright business card for the development of new energy in Sichuan.

"Water and light complementary" integrated development

provides stable and high-quality power supply to solve the problem

of new energy consumption. What is "water and light complementary"? Water and light complementary, that is, photovoltaic is connected to hydropower station, and the fluctuation of photovoltaic output power is stabilized by the excellent regulation performance of hydropower.

It is understood that the new energy power generation represented by wind power and photovoltaic power generation has become the "leading role" of the current global new power generation capacity, but the wind and solar new energy power generation which "depends on the weather for food" is congenitally deficient in intermittence and volatility. Large-scale access of wind and solar power generation to the power grid will impact the security and stability of the power grid. Hydropower, especially reservoir power stations with annual regulation capacity, can adjust random fluctuating wind power and photovoltaic power generation to smooth and stable high-quality power supply through optimal dispatch and rapid and flexible regulation of hydropower units, effectively sol ving the problems of wind and solar energy development. The integrated development of

"water and light complementary" provides an effective solution to the problem of new energy consumption. Taking Cora PV as an example, when the illumination is good and the PV output is large, Lianghekou Hydropower Station reduces the unit output and stores the water; when the PV output is reduced due to cloudy weather, rainfall and other factors, Lianghekou Hydropower Station diverts water to generate electricity and increases the hydropower output. Through the regulation of hydropower station, more stable electric energy will be output after water and light bundling, which is more conducive to the safe and stable operation of the power system. At the same time, by stabilizing the volatility of photovoltaic output through hydropower, the grid can also accept more photovoltaic access to the power system and absorb more new energy. Li Sheng, president of the General Institute of

Hydropower and Water Resources Planning and Design, pointed out that the water-light complementary development mode of Cora Photovoltaic Project can promote the absorption of new energy, improve the utilization rate of outgoing lines, and better serve the power demand at the receiving end. Cora Photovoltaic Project has raised the scale of water-light complementary development to million kilowatts for the first time, which has a good demonstration effect. The complementary development of water and light in the Yalong River Basin, represented by Cora, will further promote the development of clean energy in the region and create a new model for the large-scale centralized development of renewable energy such as water, wind, light and storage. In April

2023, the State Energy Administration issued the Guiding Opinions on Energy Work in 2023 to

promote the construction of the world's largest water-wind-solar complementary renewable energy base

in the Yalong River Basin. We will promote the integrated planning of water and scenery in major river basins and build demonstration bases for the integration of water and scenery in the upper reaches of the Yalong River and the Jinsha River.

The Yalong River Basin is not only the main energy base of the national strategy of power transmission from west to east, but also an important energy base for power supply in Sichuan. According to the integrated planning of renewable energy in the Yalong River Basin, the total scale of the clean energy base in the Yalong River Basin exceeds 100 million kilowatts, including about 30 million kilowatts of hydropower, 60 million kilowatts of wind power and photovoltaic power, and 10 million kilowatts of pumped storage power. At the same time, the output characteristics of photovoltaic and wind power are naturally complementary to hydropower, supplemented by the huge energy storage capacity of cascade hydropower stations in the Yalong River Basin, which can realize the large-scale centralized and efficient development of new energy.

It is understood that in order to help achieve the goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutralization" in China, the Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., which is jointly funded by the State Development Investment Group Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Investment Group Co., Ltd., is accelerating the construction of a green, clean and renewable energy demonstration base with complementary water, wind and solar energy in the Yalong River Basin. After the completion of the

demonstration base, it can contribute about 300 billion degrees of green electricity annually, and the annual power generation is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 250 million tons annually, reducing standard coal consumption by more than 90 million tons, and the carbon reduction effect is significant. It is reported that the promotion of the construction of the demonstration base for the integration of water and scenery in the Yalong River Basin will further enhance China's renewable energy supply capacity and the power of green and low-carbon energy transformation, and contribute to the green and low-carbon development of all mankind.
