This is an important step toward achieving Holcim's commitment to use 100% renewable energy at all U.S. facilities by 2030.

Holcim USA

recently announced a landmark clean energy investment in Northeast Michigan and a new partnership to bring the company's largest solar (photovoltaic) project in the Midwest to its cement plant in Alpena. Combined with existing renewable energy, the 25 MW solar array will help the plant generate 75% of its electricity needs on its own with green energy – an important step toward achieving Holcim's commitment to 100% renewable energy at all U.S. plants by 2030. "Holcim's solar project on 100 acres in Alpena is another strong example of our willingness to invest urgently to address sustainability issues," said AtlMartinez, vice president of procurement

at Holcim. "As new initiatives are rolled out across the United States, Holcim's momentum to transform its operations, lower its carbon footprint and move to net-zero emissions has never been stronger."

Again, the Alpena facility also announced a project to open an innovative Tire-Derived Fuel (TDF) facility. According to the announcement, Holcim launched the $7.4 million program to safely and cleanly convert 22,000 tons of tires a year into energy to fuel the plant. Backed by the state of Michigan, the facility will allow the plant to sustainably reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and other natural resources while diverting tires from landfills and streams.

In addition, the facility is planning to upgrade its jetty for barging materials across the Great Lakes. Funded in part by the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration's Small Shipyard Grant Program with the City of Alpena, the pier improvements will accommodate larger vessels, which will reduce the number of times cargo is transported and reduce CO2 emissions from lake transportation. & nbsp; & nbsp;

The array will be optimised for maximum energy yield with fixed-tilt, high-performance, double-sided solar panels that generate power on both the front and rear sides. Polaris Clean Energy, a clean energy company in the

United States, will implement the solar solution, and Holcim expects to receive about 35,000 MWh of clean electricity from the project annually, with a contract duration of at least 20 years. Construction of the renewable

energy system will begin this year, with commercial operations expected to begin in December 2024.

At present, the downward trend of cement demand is prominent, energy prices remain high, costs remain high for a long time, and profit compression has become the norm. Improving energy efficiency and reducing cost pressure have become the key breakthrough points for cement enterprises to enhance their comprehensive strength and market competitiveness.

China Cement Network will hold the "2023 China Cement Energy Conservation and New Energy Development Conference" in Chongqing on July 6-7, 2023, starting from the application of new energy technologies such as photovoltaic power generation and energy storage in the cement industry. Explore new ways of energy saving and consumption reduction in cement industry.

After the meeting, we will visit Oriental Hope Chongqing Cement .
