June 16, Wang Cheng, former deputy Secretary-General of the Anhui Provincial People's Government, opened a public hearing in the first instance of the Chizhou Intermediate People's Court on suspicion of bribery and abuse of power.
The Chizhou People's Procuratorate charged that from 1999 to 2022, the defendant Wang Cheng served as deputy secretary of the Tianjia'an District Committee of Huainan City, district head of the district government, standing committee of the Huainan Municipal Committee, deputy mayor of the municipal government, deputy secretary of the Bengbu Municipal Committee and mayor of the municipal government. The position convenience of the party secretary and chairman of Conch Group and the convenient conditions formed by taking advantage of their powers or positions to seek benefits for relevant units and individuals in the acquisition of company equity, adjustment of project planning, promotion of project construction, underwriting bond issuance, etc. Illegal acceptance of property amounted to 26.3738 million yuan, of which 15.8375 million yuan was an attempted crime. In addition, the public prosecution accused the defendant Wang Cheng of improperly exercising his powers in attracting investment during his tenure as Deputy Secretary of the Bengbu Municipal Party Committee, resulting in heavy losses of state-owned assets, and the circumstances were particularly serious.
