SK Telecom announced that it has successfully developed glass through which high-frequency signals can penetrate, and vigorously promoted the commercial use of 6G technology.

South Korea's iNews24 website reported that SK Telecom announced that it had successfully developed glass through which high-frequency signals could penetrate, and vigorously promoted the commercial use of 6G technology.

It is reported that SK Telecom and Dongwoo Finchem, a Korean chemical material company, have developed a "Low-E" glass with intelligent reflective surface (RIS). "Low-E" glass has outstanding thermal insulation characteristics and is often used as external materials for buildings, but it has the property of cutting off electromagnetic waves and does not make use of the transmission of mobile communication signals. Through the RIS technology developed this time, 6G RIS glass that transmits light and radio waves and maintains thermal insulation performance can be produced. This glass is expected to contribute to the expansion of 6G indoor coverage and the improvement of mobile communication quality after commercialization. In this study,

SK Telecom carried out transmission characteristic tests in medium and high frequency bands (7-24GHz) and (92-300GHz) and comparative experiments with 5G commercial frequency bands. High frequency band has a wide available bandwidth, which is suitable for ultra-high-speed and large-capacity wireless services. However, due to the limitation of low coverage due to short wavelength, by studying the characteristics of radio waves in different frequency bands, it is necessary to carry out pilot research and development on the technology of using high frequency band for what purpose and overcoming limitations. The experimental results show that although the loss of 6G radio wave is about 4-2000 times compared with 5G commercial frequency, it can be improved by 40% when applied to RIS technology.

SK Telecom was founded in 1984, formerly known as Korea Mobile (KMT), and changed its name to SK Telecom in 1997. The company has long topped the list of mobile operators in South Korea, with a domestic market share of more than 50% in 2008.

As the third multinational company in Korea, SK Telecom mainly focuses on energy and chemical industry and information and communication as its two pillar industries. It is the first company in the world to commercialize CDMA technology and the first company in Korea to provide wireless network services. On February 26, 2014, SK Telecom reached a preliminary agreement with Huawei to use Huawei's telecom equipment to expand its nationwide 4G wireless network.
