Professional photographer Ferdz Bedana's photo in Sharjah was the overall winner of the Global Cement and Concrete Association's (GCCA) annual photo contest, which was announced live on Instagram on

February 15. The photo was selected by a jury from more than 14,000 entries submitted by amateur and professional photographers from all continents. "Concrete is the second most widely used material on Earth after water and plays an important role in modern infrastructure and society," said Thomas Guillot, CEO

of GCCA. GCCA and our members are working together to implement our 2050 Zero Emissions Roadmap and are making progress in reducing the environmental impact of the cement and concrete industry. These stunning photographs capture the allure of concrete design and the vital role it plays in modern life and communities everywhere.

Contestants from around the world submitted photos in four categories: concrete in infrastructure, beauty and design of concrete, concrete in cities, and concrete in everyday life. Each category was divided into a professional group and an amateur group, which usually used smartphones to shoot. The breadth and diversity of all the entries highlight how concrete supports people's lives around the world in everything from giant buildings to small applications, as well as the elegance, beauty and critical support of this material. Winners in each of the

eight categories received $2,500 each. In addition to Ferdz Bedana's photographs of skateboarders, the winning entries in each category included magnificent waterfalls and roller skating competitions in Indonesia, stunning urban flyovers in China, rice mills in Bangladesh, university buildings in Mexico, metro stations in Dubai and mosques in Istanbul, Turkey. Ferdz Bedana from Sharjah, winner of

the Photo of the Year award, said: I am honored to be the overall winner of the Concrete in Life Photo Contest 2022 and to let more people see the great contribution of concrete in human life. I saw a boy skateboarding to his heart's content in a highly artistic concrete structure, which sparked my interest and I took a picture of the skatepark. Chris George,

Digital Camera World magazine's content director and one of the competition's judges, commented on the winning photo: "This is a stunning image that perfectly demonstrates the dynamic energy of a skateboard in contrast to the organic forms of artificial concrete structures." Freelance writer and photographer Norman Miller, one of the

contest's judges, added: 'Capturing a fast-moving subject, while having control over the composition and lighting, demonstrates the skill of the photographer.' Thomas Guillot, CEO

of GCCA, added: Congratulations to Ferdz Bedana and all our category winners. Please go to our website to see all the entries. They are all excellent.

GCCA and its member companies account for 80% of global cement industry production excluding China. GCCA and its members, as well as China's major concrete producers, are committed to reducing and eliminating CO2 emissions through the implementation of the Concrete Future-2050 Net Zero Roadmap. The cement and concrete industry is the first heavy industry to have such a detailed emissions reduction plan. The work of Ferdz Bedana, the champion of the professional group of
