Henan Pharmaceutical Factory, one of the urgent problems to be solved is the product packaging. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, only a few small handicraft glass workshops in Kaifeng were unable to supply bottles, ampoules and capillaries for the packaging of various medicines. The glass products needed by our factory must be purchased from Jinan, Shanghai and other places for a long distance, except for some capillaries processed by ourselves. Glass products are fragile and have a large loss on the way, which increases the cost of drugs. To this end, factory director He Hongqing held a joint meeting of the factory management committee and decided to establish a glass department based on the principle of self-reliance. In September
1949, Director He sent Li Zhongxian, chairman of the factory trade union, to Tianjin Huayang Pharmacy to order medicines, and entrusted Manager Wang of the pharmacy to find glass craftsmen on his behalf.
Introduced by Manager Wang, Li Zhongxian met Xu Jinxiang, a glass technician of Tianjin Xinsheng Physical and Chemical Instrument Factory (the predecessor of Tianjin Yibo). At that time, the Beiping-Tianjin Campaign had just ended, and the "Xinsheng" factory stopped production and waited for acceptance. When Xu Jinxiang was idle at home, he was invited to Kaifeng. After on-the-spot investigation, he believed that Kaifeng had the conditions to develop the glass industry, accepted the invitation of Henan Pharmaceutical Factory with pleasure, and made a special trip back to Tianjin to invite technical personnel from all aspects of glass production. He came to Kaifeng at the end of 1949 and the beginning of 1950. They are Xu Jinxiang (director and technician), Zhang Jinyu (furnace worker, later deputy director and engineer of Kaifeng Glass Factory) and Zhang Guirong (cylinder mouth worker). Later, he was the technical section chief of Kaifeng Glass Factory), Sun Fuyu (annealing worker), Li Benzeng (stoker batching worker), Zhang Nianshu (pipe pulling worker), Li Yongmao (cylinder mouth worker), Han Qintang (cylinder mouth instrument worker), Han Zhongrui (cylinder mouth worker) and Qin Xuchang (cylinder mouth worker). Later, Wu Qinmiao and Wang Zhengxiang also came from Wuxi and other places. Thirty-six workers, including Zheng Dasheng, Xu Bingyin, Wang Jinzhou, Zhang Shuqin, Li Mingxuan, Wang Liqing, Zheng Hongshen, Chen Mancang and Ren Jianling, worked in the Ministry of Glass in 1950. In March
1950, the Glass Department of Henan Pharmaceutical Factory was formally established. On March 20,
1950, Henan Daily published a news report on the situation of the Ministry of Glass. "The glass department of Henan Pharmaceutical Factory has started construction on the 18th, which is a bud of Bian's glass industry.". The factory is located at No.5, Shuanglong Lane. Since February 6, after more than a month of active preparation, with the hard work of technician Xu Jinxiang and workers, the production equipment of dark furnace, neat furnace and safety furnace has been repaired, and the construction was officially started on February 18. At that time, there were 14 workers in the gold factory, which could produce 600 pounds (about 220 kilograms) of medicinal bottles a day for the factory to fill tinctures. And prepared to make medical, chemical and other glass instruments, for the use of factories, schools, hospitals.
From 1953 to 1955, in order to facilitate centralized management and production development, all departments of Henan Pharmaceutical Factory and Zhengzhou Branch were moved to No.303, Wolong, Kaifeng City (the former site of Henan Provincial Communications Department). The Glass Department of Henan Pharmaceutical Factory and the Glass Department of Zhengzhou Branch were merged into a glass workshop and moved to Wolong (Xiaonanmenli) in Kaifeng City. At that time, there were more than 100 employees in the glass workshop of Kaifeng Pharmaceutical Factory, and Zhang Guirong and Zhang Jinyu were the workshop director and deputy director respectively.
In 1958, with the development and change of economic construction, the social demand for various products increased sharply. Provincial and municipal leading departments have put forward the requirement of expanding the production of daily glass products such as milk powder bottles and thermos bottles in the glass workshop of Kaifeng Pharmaceutical Factory. Because of the decision to expand the glass workshop into a glass branch factory. The glass branch has successively built a 10-ton, 5-ton and 3-ton tank furnace. In addition to the original two crucible furnaces, two 600lb X 9 crucible furnaces were added. In addition to meeting the packaging bottles used by Kaifeng Pharmaceutical Factory, milk powder bottles and thermos bottles are also added. The successful trial production of thermos bottles has filled a gap in Henan Province and eased the tight supply of thermos bottles in Henan Province. On October 26,
1958, according to the decision of Kaifeng Municipal Committee and Municipal People's Government, the glass branch of Kaifeng Pharmaceutical Factory was separated and expanded into a local state-owned Kaifeng Glass Factory under the leadership of Kaifeng Industrial Bureau. In June
1963, according to the No.229 Notice of the Department of Light and Chemical Industry of Henan Province, Kaifeng Glass Factory was transferred to the provincial administration and named Kaifeng Glass Factory of Henan Province. In August 1964, the Kaifeng Municipal People's Committee closed the Kaifeng Bulb Factory in accordance with the eight-character policy of "adjustment, consolidation, enrichment and improvement", and most of the workers were transferred to the glass factory. After August
1981, there was a good situation of steady increase in production in the glass factory. In order to reform the system, strengthen management, give full play to the technical expertise and autonomy of each workshop, and develop production more effectively, Kaifeng Glass Factory asked Kaifeng Light Industry Bureau to establish Kaifeng Glass General Factory on December 30, 1981. In November
1981, with the approval of the relevant provincial and municipal departments, the Municipal Light Industry Bureau decided to merge the locomotive parts factory into Kaifeng Glass General Factory and rename it Kaifeng Glass General Factory Beer Bottle Branch. In this way, Kaifeng Glass General Factory increased from four branch factories to five branch factories. In 1983, the Kailiu Railway Section was also placed under the leadership of Kaifeng Glass General Factory.
