2016, with the roar of the mill, the first cement mill with an annual output of 4.4 million tons of cement grinding system of Conch Peacock Port Project in Indonesia was put into operation smoothly, which marked that the project shifted from the construction period to the production and operation period. After 16 months of hard work, the factory area has changed from a barren land overgrown with weeds to a modern large-scale cement grinding factory, which has written a chapter in the overseas construction of China Construction Port.
This key construction project along the national "the Belt and Road" has been completed and operated for nearly seven years, with a throughput of 4.52 million tons per year. The overall operation of the project is good, bringing huge economic benefits to the local area. On the tenth anniversary of the "the Belt and Road" initiative, looking back on this key project along the line, the former builders and experienced people are full of emotion.
"After the completion of the project, it is of great strategic significance to further improve the market layout of Conch Cement in Indonesia.". Java Island won the bid for the Peacock Port project in 2015. After the completion of the project, Conch Group can transport cement to Jakarta and surrounding islands through convenient water and land transportation. After winning the bid, China Construction Port sent a construction team with rich experience in the overseas hydraulic industry to focus on the project. Since then, a number of construction "pioneers" have emerged in Java Island.
Java is a typical tropical rainforest climate, with nine months of rainy season in a year, so the inconvenience and difficulty of construction can be imagined. In a foreign country, the first batch of project entrants burst out with amazing strength. They overcame the difficulties of language, culture, climate, habits and loneliness, and devoted themselves to the project construction without hesitation. Since then, this foreign land has been covered with the footprints of Zhongjian people.
From temporary construction, land acquisition, the first pile to every subsequent node, it is full of hardships and twists, condensing the efforts and sweat of project personnel.
With the construction of the project, the location has gradually become a factory area, bringing vitality and hope to this barren area. More than 500 Indonesian local employees participated in the whole construction process of the project.
"Chinese friends fought side by side with us. They were not afraid of harsh conditions and hardships. They built their hometown with us. We were very moved," Amdali, a local Indonesian worker, recalled with emotion.
Amdali, a local villager, became an ordinary worker of China Construction Port in the project construction. He joined the project construction with novelty and hope, actively studied in the work, and became one with the Chinese workers. This job not only improved his income and their family's life, but also helped him learn skills and brought hope to his family. The most challenging quality
of "national excellence" in
"the Belt and Road" is not the difficulty of construction, but the integration with local culture. In the process of management, there are cultural conflicts, language barriers and ideological barriers between the two countries. In the construction of the project, it is faced with difficulties such as tight construction period and narrow working face. In order to speed up the construction progress, technicians used steel casing as a support platform to build an offshore construction road, creating a construction situation of land and sea, and doubling the construction speed. In order to ensure the quality of the project, the project department built its own laboratory and sent a special person to keep a close eye on the mix proportion of the mixing station. Wang Yannan, an employee of China Construction Port who was responsible for the quality, practiced fluent Indonesian from the initial language barrier to the end of the project.
"I learned Indonesian in this project. At that time, we learned from local workers when we were not familiar with the language. We wore long sleeves and hats when we were exposed to the sun. We took the initiative to integrate into different cultures and habits. Overseas people mainly focus on a comprehensive quality, ha ha..". Wang Yannan, a worker who participated in the construction at that time, recalled with some humor.
The project construction pays attention to innovation, and takes the lead in applying BIM technology to assist engineering construction in Indonesia's water transport industry, which ensures the construction efficiency and quality. The "new technology of steel casing construction platform" is adopted to speed up the platform erection, reduce the material consumption and improve the stability of the platform. It is the first "new component support device" to overcome the problems of difficult installation and positioning of berthing components in open sea areas without shelter and great influence by water level, which is safe, convenient, recyclable and economical.
Through the efforts of all the staff of the project department, the project was completed on schedule in only one year, which was highly praised by the owner. In 2020, it was awarded the first batch of "Water Transport Quality Engineering Award" by the Ministry of Transport, and in 2020-2021, it was awarded the "National Quality Engineering Award", becoming a representative quality project of China Construction Port in Indonesia. During the
construction process, local government officials inspected the project and said, "China Construction is a very good enterprise. They recruit local people to work in the company and solve the employment difficulties of Indonesians.". I support the development of China Construction in Indonesia and welcome other Chinese enterprises to invest in Indonesia.

The project initiated the long-term cooperation between China Construction Port and Conch Group, and subsequently undertook three projects, namely, Xijia Cement Transfer Supporting Terminal Project, Jugang Cement Transfer Supporting Terminal Project and Palu Cement Transfer Project.
Moreover, the construction of Peacock Port Project has been highly recognized by the owners through high-quality performance and project quality, and has also led to in-depth cooperation in the domestic market.
