On February 5, the water diversion volume of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project exceeded 60 billion cubic meters, directly benefiting more than 150 million people. This includes the contributions made by the Eighth Hydropower Bureau in the construction of the aqueduct of the middle route of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, the aqueduct of the Lihe River, the second section of the Baodi River and the diversion of water from the Yangtze River to the Han River.

The first phase of the eastern and middle routes of

the South-to-North Water Diversion Project has been in operation for more than eight years since it was fully opened to water in December 2014. According to the information learned by Xinhua News Agency from China South-to-North Water Diversion Group Co., Ltd., as of February 5, the cumulative water diversion of the first phase of the eastern and middle routes of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project has exceeded 60 billion cubic meters. If compared with the average annual natural runoff of the Yellow River of 58 billion cubic meters, it is equivalent to transferring more than one year's water from the Yellow River to the northern region. As the annual water diversion volume continues to rise, the water diverted from the south by the middle route has become the main water source in the receiving area from the planned auxiliary water source; the water supply scope of the north extension project of the east route has been expanded to Hebei, Tianjin and other places, directly benefiting more than 150 million people. In the construction of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the Eighth Bureau of

Hydropower has successively won the bid for the projects of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, such as the Pihe River Aqueduct in Hebei Province, the Lihe River Aqueduct in Henan Province and the Second Bid Section of Baocheng, and through good project performance, it has helped China achieve the largest water diversion feat in human history. These projects mainly include

the Minghe Aqueduct of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project: The Minghe Aqueduct Project is located in Yongnian County, Handan City, Hebei Province. It is a large river and canal crossing structure of the main canal of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The Minghe Aqueduct is a rectangular prestressed reinforced concrete structure with three troughs and one connection, with a total length of 930 meters, a net width of 7 meters and a net height of 6.8 meters. It is mainly composed of aqueduct, control sluice, receding sluice, maintenance sluice and ice discharge sluice. Among them, the aqueduct body is a 16-span simply-supported beam structure with a single span length of 40 meters and a total length of 640 meters, which is the largest single-span aqueduct of the same type in Asia under construction. The construction of the project was started on June 16, 2010. In December 2013, the full tank water filling test was completed, and all technical indicators met the design requirements. In May 2014, the unit works of the project passed the contract acceptance smoothly, and the grade was excellent. Lihe River Aqueduct of the Middle Route of

the South-to-North Water Diversion Project: The Lihe River Aqueduct is located on the Lihe River between Poli and Dianliu in Changcun Township, Yexian County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. It is a large canal crossing structure of the main canal of the first phase of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project across the Lihe River. The aqueduct body is a double-line double-trough rectangular trough with 14 spans in total. Two side spans are 30m spans, and the remaining 12 spans are 40m spans. The net width of a single trough is 10.0m, and the top width of a double-line aqueduct is 26.6m and the bottom width is 26.7m. The construction of the project was started on December 1, 2010; the project was completed in May 2014 and passed the water supply acceptance. The

Second Bid Section of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project: The Second Bid Section of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is located between Baofeng County and Jiaxian County in Henan Province, with a total length of 3,740.4m. Two river and canal crossings (Yudai River channel inverted siphon and Jingchang River channel inverted siphon), one left bank drainage (station north ditch aqueduct), one water division gate (Gaozhuang water division), one control gate (Yudai River channel inverted siphon outlet control gate) and three highway bridges (Shihuiyao East Highway Bridge, Gaozhuang East Highway Bridge and Liuzhuang Northwest Highway Bridge) are arranged. The construction of the project was started on December 25, 2010; the water supply conditions were met in December 2014; the project passed the contract acceptance smoothly in August 2015, and the grade was excellent.

In addition, the Eighth Bureau of Hydropower has also participated in the construction of the first phase of the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, such as the "Yangtze River to Han River Diversion Project" and the "Yellow River Crossing Project".
