The Western Australian government announced on September 19 that it had signed a contract with Ningde Times Company of China to provide containerized liquid-cooled battery systems for Kwinana Battery Phase II and Collie Battery Projects. At the same time, Spain's Power Electronics will provide inverters for both projects. The total value of these contracts is more than a 1 billion, marking an important breakthrough in the field of renewable energy storage in Western Australia. The second phase of
the Kwinana battery project was officially started in June this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Once completed, the project will provide Western Australia with 200 megawatts of electricity and 800 megawatt-hours of energy storage capacity. This will help balance the difference between power supply and demand and improve the reliability and stability of the energy system.
Ningde Times is one of the world's leading power battery manufacturers, and its liquid-cooled battery system is widely used in the field of electric vehicle and energy storage. The company's participation will bring advanced energy storage technologies and solutions to the Kwinana Battery Phase II project and the Collie Battery project.
At the same time, Power Electronics will provide inverter technology to convert stored energy into alternating current that can be used by the grid. This will ensure the efficient operation of the power system while providing a reliable power supply.
The Western Australian government says the signing of these projects will promote the development of renewable energy and promote local economic growth. The state has been working to reduce its dependence on traditional coal-fired power generation and invest more in renewable energy. The construction of these battery projects will create local employment opportunities, upgrade technology and promote the process of sustainable energy transformation.
The cooperation also reflects the cooperative relationship between China and Australia in the field of energy. The participation of Ningde Times will provide Western Australia with opportunities for technical support and experience exchange, and promote cooperation and development between the two countries in the field of renewable energy. To revolutionise Western Australia's energy system and drive the development of renewable energy while contributing to economic growth and sustainable development.
