According to the researchers, this is by far the highest efficiency of tandem devices in the world. The efficiency is certified by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI) and ranks near the top of NREL's best research cell efficiency charts. In April

It is reported that since 2016, the KAUST team has been steadily improving the concept of perovskite/silicon tandem batteries. They are constantly developing new materials, methods and device structures, and addressing fundamental challenges, such as how to uniformly cover the micron-scale pyramid surface of silicon cells with perovskite materials. Silicon-based materials have long been the industry standard for solar cells,
considering factors such as efficiency, durability and cost, but current silicon-based photovoltaic devices are approaching the theoretical upper limit of efficiency. At the same time, perovskite, as a rapidly rising "young upstart", is seen as likely to take the "crown" of silicon.
The market predicts that by 2032, tandem perovskite/silicon technology will account for more than $10 billion in the global photovoltaic market.
