a thousand years ago, Li Jing, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, wrote on the banks of the Jinsha River, "The two extremes are like the sky, and the river is like a well.". From the beginning of March to the end of September, the poem "The miasma beats the sky like fog", in just 20 words, describes the difficulty of traveling and survival in the high mountains and deep valleys of the Hengduan Mountains.
A thousand years later, a group of Three Gorges people with the ideal of "building the Three Gorges for China" built a 289-meter-high, 16 million kilowatts of installed capacity with the determination of "Wumeng majestic mud pills" and the pride of "Jinsha water patting the cloud cliff warm". Baihetan Hydropower Station is the second largest hydropower station in the world with an average annual power generation of 62.443 billion kilowatt-hours.

Speaking of the Baihetan Hydropower Station, Wang Zhilin, director of the Baihetan Project Construction Department of the Three Gorges Construction Engineering Group affiliated to the Three Gorges Group, who has been stationed at the site for nine years, said proudly: "The Baihetan Hydropower Station has climbed the'hydropower Everest 'of the world today.". We have gathered the strength of China's hydropower industry chain, bravely climbed the new peak of science and technology, vigorously carried out research and development of key core technologies, created six world first, two world second and two world third, and led China's hydropower into the world's "no man's land".

The underground powerhouse caverns
of Baihetan Hydropower Station have complex structural layout and large buried depth. The excavation volume of underground caverns is 25 million cubic meters, with a total length of 217 kilometers. In order to install 16 million kilowatt units, a huge factory building with a length of 438 meters, a width of 34 meters and a height of 88.7 meters has been excavated on both sides of the Jinsha River, which is enough to fit into a "Liaoning" aircraft carrier. The powerhouse
of Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in the Hengduan Mountains, where there are many columnar joints and cracks between rock layers. In addition, the powerhouse is deeply buried and the ground stress is high, which leads to great challenges to the stability of surrounding rock. At the beginning of 2018, during the excavation of the powerhouse on the right bank, abnormal deformation of surrounding rock occurred in the top arch, downstream arch foot and side wall of the tunnel section with small pile number, and the daily deformation rate reached 4.4 mm, exceeding the danger level. As long as the deformation of surrounding rock continues to develop, the risk of instability will increase. How to take emergency measures as soon as possible, quickly restrain the deformation and continue to develop, ensure the stability of the small pile surrounding rock of the plant, ensure the safety of the construction personnel, and create conditions for the world's first million kilowatt units to generate electricity on schedule, has become the primary key problem faced by the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project during the Spring Festival of 2018.
In order to ensure the safe and efficient completion of the emergency reinforcement of small pile number surrounding rock as soon as possible, the front-line builders of Baihetan Project abandoned the Spring Festival vacation and jointly designed, supervised and constructed units to work together, especially to give full play to the vanguard and exemplary role of Party members, about 30 Party members created the "emergency reinforcement of surrounding rock on the right bank". Gather all forces and coordinate all specialties to complete the emergency reinforcement project of surrounding rock safely and efficiently in the shortest time. The technical backbone of
Pioneer Party members first determined the failure mechanism of surrounding rock and put forward a set of scientific support schemes. In the process of emergency reinforcement construction, Pioneer Party members insist on 24-hour duty on site, and establish a daily meeting system to make overall arrangements for reinforcement and support construction and monitoring data analysis. In just 180 days, the Party member vanguard of the emergency reinforcement of the surrounding rock of the right bank plant formed 125 on-site memorandums, quickly solved more than 820 items related to construction coordination and decision-making, and gradually won the first chance in the race against time.
Recalling the scene at that time, He Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project, said that during the whole construction period, the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project carried out the work of "Great Party Building" in the construction area through innovation in the face of a series of world-class large-scale construction problems such as emergency reinforcement of the surrounding rock of the right bank factory, which are rare in the world and rare in history. By means of co-construction of organizations, sharing of resources, consultation of affairs, co-organization of activities and win-win development, the strength of many participating units and builders has been gathered and twisted into a rope, thus forming a powerful force to overcome difficulties. The million-kilowatt unit
of Baihetan Hydropower Station can be said to be the "heart" of the whole project and the energy source of the whole hydropower station, but it is also a "big heart" composed of more than one million parts with a single unit 50 meters high and weighing more than 8000 tons. However, many technical standards of this "big heart" are measured in millimeters or even microns, and the difficulty of construction can be imagined.
No matter how difficult it is, it can not shake the determination of the builders to build high-quality projects.

stator bar is an important component of the unit. Once the packaging is not good or the control is not good during transportation, the four-meter-long big thing will be easily deformed, thus affecting the performance. Especially for the stator bars of the right bank unit, how to ensure the safety of transportation is the key to transport them from Harbin, more than 3000 kilometers away, by land, sea, ship and then by land to the construction site.
Many people think that equipment transportation is a matter for manufacturers and has nothing to do with the Ministry of Engineering Construction. However, the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project firmly believes that if we want to create high-quality products, we must accurately grasp every link. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project went deep into the factory to study the transportation plan. For land transportation, if the plane is easy to deform, it should be placed on the facade; for sea transportation, if it is easy to get damp, the equipment should be packed with vacuum bags to prevent water vapor from entering. Through our joint efforts, the stator bar has been delivered safely and smoothly with high standards.
In fact, for the manufacturers of Baihetan million kilowatt units, they have become accustomed to the highly serious and responsible behavior of the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project. From factory supervision, factory acceptance, product quality inspection, installation and commissioning, the Ministry of Construction of Baihetan Project has extended the world-leading "Three Gorges Standard" to every link of the whole industrial chain of equipment manufacturing for million kilowatt units. It has promoted the upgrading of the whole industry chain of hydropower equipment in China, achieved a major breakthrough in high-end equipment manufacturing in China, and further highlighted the core competitiveness of hydropower in China.
