Bohai Strait Cross-sea Passage is an important and far-reaching research topic for the economic and social development of the eastern coastal areas of China and even the whole country in the 21st century. The basic idea is to take advantage of the favorable geographical conditions of the Bohai Strait to build a direct and fast passage across the Bohai Strait from Penglai, Shandong Province, to Lushun, Liaoning Province, through Miaodao Islands, by means of cross-sea bridges, submarine tunnels or a combination of bridges and tunnels, so as to change the C shaped traffic with a gap into a Φ shaped traffic extending in all directions, and turn the natural moat into a thoroughfare. The eastern highway and railway traffic artery, which runs through 11 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) from Heilongjiang to Hainan, is more than 5700 kilometers long.
According to the preliminary research plan, the length of this cross-sea passage is about 125 kilometers, with an estimated total investment of over 300 billion yuan. The specific use of bridges or tunnels is uncertain, but according to the reports of major media, it will be both bridges and tunnels, and it will become the longest cross-sea project in human history.
