According to the data of China Hydrogen Energy Alliance Hydrogen Energy Industry Big Data Platform [Hydrogen Industry], by the end of June, 370 hydrogen energy policies had been issued in all parts of China, 42 renewable energy hydrogen production projects had been built and operated, 71 fuel cell cogeneration and power generation projects had been built and operated, and the number of hydrogen production projects had been increased. The total number of hydrogen stations built and operated has reached 385, and the number of new hydrogen stations, the number of hydrogen stations in operation and the total number of hydrogen stations rank first in the world.
With the continuous optimization of the top-level design of the hydrogen energy industry, the extensive expansion of the application field, the steady improvement of the technical level and the deep optimization of the industrial structure, China's hydrogen energy industry has ushered in an opportunity for rapid development. With the clear goal of carbon neutralization and the gradual formulation of relevant planning policies, the development prospects of China's hydrogen energy industry show a broader prospect.
Hydrogen energy policy continues to increase, and Guangdong leads the country in quantity. By the end of June, a total of 370 hydrogen energy policies issued by local governments were included in the [hydrogen sector]. In terms of policy types, there are 159 items of development planning, 73 items of financial support, 70 items of project support, 62 items of management measures, 4 items of hydrogen safety, 2 items of standard system, 97 items of provincial policies and 273 items of municipal and county policies.
Renewable hydrogen production capacity continues to expand, and the market space is still huge. By the end of June, 42 renewable energy hydrogen production projects had been completed nationwide, covering 16 provinces (municipalities directly under the Central Government and autonomous regions), involving 37 enterprises, with a total project scale of 586.7 MW. The number of
hydrogen stations continues to grow and still ranks first in the world. By the end of June, the number of hydrogen stations built and operated nationwide had reached 385, an increase of 130 compared with 255 at the end of 2021. The number of hydrogen refueling stations in major countries around the world has reached 767, with 40 new ones added. Among them, the number of new hydrogenation stations, the number of hydrogenation stations in operation and the total number of hydrogenation stations in China rank first in the world. In addition, these hydrogenation stations have covered 29 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, with Guangdong, Shandong, Henan, Hebei and Jiangsu provinces accounting for the highest proportion of hydrogenation stations, totaling 45.5%. Of these built hydrogenation stations, 259 are in operation, accounting for 67.3%, with a cumulative supply capacity of 187800 kg per day. Among the hydrogen stations in operation, the number of fixed stations is 163, accounting for 62.9%. According to the pressure level, the number of 35 MPa hydrogenation stations is 224, accounting for 86.5%.
Fuel cell cogeneration and power generation projects continue to develop, leading the country in Zhejiang. By the end of June, 71 fuel cell cogeneration and power generation projects had been completed and operated in China, covering 21 provinces (municipalities directly under the Central Government and autonomous regions), with a total scale of 13.7 MW. Among them, Zhejiang Province, Guangdong Province, Shandong Province and Liaoning Province ranked the top four. The fuel cell type of these projects is mainly proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), accounting for 70.4%; the functional scenario is mainly fuel cell power generation, accounting for 53.5%; the application scenario is mainly concentrated in the plant area, accounting for 22.5%. The production-side index of
China's hydrogen price index declined slightly, while the consumption-side index remained stable. In terms of price, in June 2023, the production side index of China's hydrogen price index declined slightly, and the national average dropped from 34.5 yuan/kg last month to 34.3 yuan/kg. The consumption side index remained unchanged, and the national average was about 57.6 yuan/kg. In terms of cost, by the end of June, the cost of comprehensive hydrogen, clean hydrogen and renewable hydrogen assessment in China was about 12.64 yuan/kg, 13.66 yuan/kg and 19.01 yuan/kg, respectively. The prices of coal and natural gas in the national market generally stabilized, and the comprehensive hydrogen and clean hydrogen indexes were relatively stable; the price of photovoltaic modules declined more, the price of wind turbines turned from rising to falling, the cost of green electricity showed a downward trend, and the cost of renewable hydrogen assessment decreased significantly.
