To further cooperate in the development of fluorescent quantum dot technology for advanced solar modules. The two companies have been conducting exploratory research work since early 2022, and the preliminary results support the more formal joint development collaboration announced today.
Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconductor nanoparticles that exhibit highly efficient photoluminescence over a wide range of tunable colors, allowing them to efficiently optimize the optical spectrum. UbiQD has introduced several greenhouse products under its UbiGro ® brand that modulate the spectrum of sunlight to promote crop growth. Now, the company is designing these materials for potential applications in utility-scale solar, with the goal of significantly improving the efficiency of current photovoltaic technologies. "As we work to develop the next generation of photovoltaic cells, we are exploring a number of improvements that will allow us to convert more sunlight into energy," said Markus Gloeckler, chief technology officer at
First Solar. "We are interested in the potential use of quantum dots to optimize light absorption and look forward to continuing to work with UbiQD to explore this possibility."
