Substitution of Raw Materials and Fuels: the Key to Low Carbon Cement Production

2023-08-16 10:04:21

In order to achieve low-carbon cement production, it is necessary to replace raw materials and fuels.

There are two sources of carbon dioxide in the

existing new dry process cement production process: one is from the combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, and the other is from the decomposition of limestone. Low-carbon cement can minimize carbon emissions by using alternative components.

In order to achieve low-carbon cement production, it is necessary to replace raw materials and fuels:

fuel substitution. Use combustible wastes such as garbage and biomass, as well as new energy sources such as green hydrogen and photovoltaics, to reduce the consumption of traditional fossil fuels such as coal. Data show that if 40% of alternative fuels are used in cement production, about 100000 tons of carbon dioxide will be saved for every 1 million tons of clinker produced.

Raw material substitution. The annual output of cement in China is about 2.4 billion tons, and about 1.3 tons of calcareous raw materials are consumed to produce 1 ton of cement clinker. Calcium carbide slag, steel slag, slag and other calcium-rich wastes can replace limestone as raw materials for cement production, which can save a lot of natural mineral resources. Therefore, using industrial solid wastes as alternative raw materials is one of the important means for cement industry to co-dispose industrial solid wastes, reduce natural mineral consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

At present, more than 2/3 of cement plants in European developed countries use alternative fuels, and the replacement ratio of combustible wastes in the cement industry is up to 20% on average. However, the overall fuel replacement rate in China is low, and there is still a huge space for promotion and application. The problem faced by raw material replacement is that the available amount of calcium-rich wastes is difficult to meet the demand of cement production.

To solve the above problems and achieve zero carbon in cement production, how should cement enterprises start? On September 12-13, 2023, China Cement Network will hold the "2023 Cement'Double Carbon 'Conference and the 10th China Cement Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Exchange Conference" in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Industry experts will be invited to share technical solutions such as alternative fuels (RDF/SRF) and co-disposal, and to conduct in-depth discussions on the practice of preparing ultra-fine composite admixtures from solid waste recycling.

At the same time, the medal ceremony of "2023 Advanced Enterprises of Double Carbon in Cement Industry" and the "Double Carbon" Equipment Exhibition will be held . After the meeting, we will also organize a visit to the UNK2 of Jiyuan Zhonglian Cement Co., Ltd. "The world's first production line of steel slag capturing cement kiln flue gas CO2 to prepare carbon sequestration auxiliary cementitious materials and low-carbon cement". 3。 0HTML0UNK24
