On April 19, 2023, the 9th China (Shanghai) High-quality Machine-made Sand Production and Application Summit Forum and Shanghai Sandstone Industry Annual Conference were successfully held. Liu Shiqi, Chief of Energy-saving Building Materials Department of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, made a keynote report on the basic situation of major building materials markets in Shanghai and the requirements for sand management for construction.
Liu Shiqi introduced that in 2022, the use of major building materials in Shanghai began to rise and stabilize after June, and entered a larger rising period after September. From July to November 2022, it has recovered and exceeded the same period in 2021, showing that Shanghai has strong resilience and growth potential in the field of construction. It is expected that the use of building materials in Shanghai will increase considerably in 2023. In terms of
sand and gravel, the total amount of sand used for construction in Shanghai in 2022 was 42.188 million tons, and a total of 35045 ships were transported to Shanghai mixing station and other production units by ship throughout the year. In 2022, a total of 45.33 million tons of construction stones were used in Shanghai, of which 52.8% came from Zhoushan, 35.8% from Fujian coastal areas, and about 11% from other areas.
In 2022, the price of sand for construction was generally stable and declined. In 2022, the average price of natural sand and medium sand decreased by 9% year-on-year, and the average price of machine-made sand and medium sand decreased by 8% year-on-year.
In view of the situation that the construction sand market in recent years has "complex sources, reduced quantity and increased price, and large fluctuations in quality", Shanghai has issued documents such as "Interim Opinions on Strengthening the Management of Construction Sand in Shanghai" and "Notice on Further Deepening the Reform of" Releasing Control Clothing "for the Record of Building Materials" to strengthen the management of the construction sand market.
Liu Shiqi pointed out that he hoped that sand and gravel and related enterprises could fully understand these requirements and jointly promote the sustainable and healthy development of the sand and gravel market and industry in Shanghai.
