On March 29, the opening ceremony of Tanzania float glass production line, the first overseas glass production line manufactured by Kodak, was held, marking the company's formal entry into the glass industry and steadily promoting the company's "big building materials" strategy. Yu Shankai, General Manager of Tanzania Float Glass Project, Zhang Wan, General Manager of Tanzania Ceramics Factory, and other company leaders and project site preparation team attended the opening ceremony.
Kodak's float glass production line in Tanzania is located in Mkuranga District, Pwani Province, Tanzania, with a total area of 66 acres. At present, the project plans to build a building glass production line to produce 3300 × 2140 mm-3660 × 2800mm white glass, blue glass (film) and tea glass (film) products with a thickness of 3-12 mm, with a planned daily capacity of 600 tons per day. The project is expected to be officially launched at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.
According to preliminary market research, there is no glass production capacity in Tanzania and its surrounding areas. Kodak Manufacturing will invest in local factories, which will replace imported products and seize market space. The site is close to Koda Tanzania Ceramics Factory, with convenient transportation and sufficient reserves of fuel raw materials, which can meet the production needs. Since
2016, Kodak Manufacturing has invested in six production bases and 14 production lines of building ceramics in five African countries, with an annual production capacity of over 120 million square meters, and has expanded from building ceramics to large building materials. The first sanitary ware project (Ghana Sanitary Ware Phase I Project) has been put into operation recently. With the operation of the glass project in Tanzania in the future, it will further enrich the category of large building materials, make full use of the channel synergy advantages of the overseas building materials sector to expand the market, and promote the sustainable development of the overseas building materials sector along with the local urbanization in Africa.
