On July 21, the Guiding Opinions on Actively and Steadily Promoting the Transformation of Urban Villages in Megacities were deliberated and adopted at the executive meeting of the State Council.
The Guiding Opinions cover the following 19 cities:
8 megacities: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Tianjin and Wuhan;
11 megacities: Hangzhou, Dongguan, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Jinan, Hefei, Shenyang, Qingdao, Changsha and Harbin.
The meeting pointed out that the active and steady implementation of urban village transformation in mega-cities is an important measure to improve people's livelihood, expand domestic demand and promote high-quality urban development. Demolishing the old and building the new will have a positive impact on both supply and demand in the market. On the one hand, the demolished households have the demand to buy houses again, and the demand of the real estate market has increased. On the other hand, new buildings will be built after demolition, which will effectively promote the development of building materials industry including glass .
