China is the country with the largest cement production and consumption in the world. Because of the high cost of construction, it has always been known as the "infrastructure maniac". In 2021, China's cement output is 2.38 billion tons, 25 times that of the United States in a year, exceeding the total cement output of all other countries. That may not be impressive enough. It has been estimated that China consumed 6.6 billion tons of cement from 2011 to 2013 alone, more than the United States consumed in the entire twentieth century. But look at what the United States built between 1901 and 2000: skyscrapers, interstate highways, the Hoover Dam, and so on, while consuming only 4.5 billion tons of cement. So it is no exaggeration to say that China has used more cement in three years than the United States has used in 100 years.
