Japan's Prime Minister Admits GDP Data "Flooding": Exaggerating Construction Orders Data for Years

On December 15, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida admitted that the government had exaggerated the construction orders data. The number of related orders is accounted for in Japan's gross domestic product, which experts say may cause the economic growth data to be inflated. Earlier, Japanese media reported that if about 12,000 construction companies in the country did not report the number of orders every month, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport would fill in the figures on its own to avoid "zero orders".
