Lafarge to Build 3 Million Tons Cement Plant in India

     On September 26, Lafarge announced that it would build a cement plant in Alsindi, India, to meet the needs of the northern Indian market. It is reported that the project has been approved by the government of Himachal Pradesh, where Alsindi is located.

      According to the plan, the cement plant will have a designed annual production capacity of 3 million tons and will be completed in 2010 with a total investment of 160 million US dollars. By then, Lafarge's cement production capacity in India will be expanded from 5.5 million tons to 8.5 million tons.
