For the first time, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation exceeded that of coal-fired power generation, making it the largest power supply category in China.
China's energy pattern ushered in a historic turning point! According to the latest data from
the State Energy Administration, by the end of July this year, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in China had reached 1.286 billion kilowatts, including 704 million kilowatts of centralized photovoltaic and 582 million kilowatts of distributed photovoltaic. For the first time, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation exceeded that of coal-fired power generation, making it the largest power supply category in China. In July
this year, the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation increased by 13.73 million kilowatts, up 43% year-on-year. From January to July this year, the accumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation increased by 85.65 million kilowatts, with a year-on-year decrease of 62% (mainly affected by the rush installation from January to May 2025, with a higher base in the same period); the photovoltaic power generation reached 802.4 billion kilowatt hours, with a year-on-year increase of 15.5%, exceeding the growth rate of electricity consumption of the whole society by 10.8 percentage points; The proportion of photovoltaic power generation in the total electricity consumption of the whole society has reached 13%, which is 1.7 percentage points higher than that of last year.
In recent years, the installed capacity and power generation of photovoltaic power generation have maintained a relatively rapid growth trend, and its role in ensuring power supply and promoting energy transformation has become increasingly prominent.
