On July 23, Wang Bohua, former Secretary-General of China Photovoltaic Industry Association of China Development of Photovoltaic Industry in the First Half of 2026 and Prospects for the Situation in the Second Half of 2026.
The report shows that in the first half of 2026, China's photovoltaic industry is experiencing a deep adjustment, and the new installed capacity of photovoltaic in China has been significantly adjusted back:
From January to June, the national polysilicon output was 538,000 tons , with a year-on-year decrease of 9.8% ; the silicon wafer output was 293 GW, with a year-on-year decrease of 7.3%; Cell output was 260.7 GW , down 21.9% year on year ; The output of PV modules is 201.3GW . In the first half
of 2026, the export volume of photovoltaic products such as silicon wafers, batteries and modules increased in an all-round way, with a total export volume of about 171.83 US dollars. The export volume decreased by 0.6%, increased by 36.8% and decreased by 2.
In terms of the export of photovoltaic products, the European market is still one of the core positions of China's module export; Southeast Asia became the largest incremental market for module exports in the first half of the year, while Indonesia became the largest export market for cells from January to June 2026. In the first half of the year, the export of solar cells to the Indian market declined, but the export of silicon wafers doubled , making it the largest silicon wafer market in China in the first half of the year.
Looking ahead, Wang Bohua said that 2026 is in the stage of adjustment, and it is expected that 612 GW of new photovoltaic installed capacity will be added in the whole year, down 8% from the same period last year ; In 2030, the newly installed PV capacity is expected to rise to 864 GW , with a compound growth rate of 7% from 2026 to 2030.
The significant adjustment of China's PV market policy will significantly affect the global total; other markets will slow down the pace of installation due to the impact of grid congestion, photovoltaic curtailment and negative electricity prices.
