Recently, at the 13th Central China Expo Central China Investment Promotion Conference, Wang Zhonglin, governor of Hubei Province, revealed that Hubei should do a good job in upgrading the hub and accelerate the new waterway of the Three Gorges and the Jinghan Canal.
At present, the waterway above the Three Gorges Project and below Wuhan has reached 10000 tons, but the section from Wuhan to Yichang can only meet the navigation of 5000 tons of ships all the year round, and even 3000 tons in dry season. In order to solve this problem, since 2015, the expert team in Hubei has proposed the construction of the Jinghan Canal Project. During this year's NPC and CPPCC sessions, "speeding up the preliminary work of the Jinghan Canal" became the proposal of the whole delegation of Hubei Province.
According to the information disclosed at present, the Jinghan Canal Project will rebuild a transverse canal between the "V" shaped Yangtze River waterway from Jingzhou to Wuhan Jiuqu ileum. After the completion of the Jinghan Canal Project, it is expected that the voyage through the Yangtze River will be shortened by 260 kilometers, the transportation time will be reduced by about 14 hours, and the cost of water transport logistics will be significantly reduced.
